It’s been a mixed bag of weather so far since we arrived in Funchal on Friday. The forecaster’s cliché of “sunshine and showers” would be a bit of an understatement. We’ve had some very heavy downpours, but also some really warm sunshine. Oh, and wind. This rather splendid hat that I only bought in June is now floating somewhere in the Atlantic thanks to a big gust of wind. Unfortunately I can only purchase it direct from the comapny in Greece (I bought this one on sale at Very). As well as the premium price due to it being handmade, there’s also the expensive shipping cost and possible import duty to pay (another Brexit bonus). So, I’ll probably have to play the long game ad wait for it to pop up on Vinted or eBay.
Anyway, before catastrophe struck, it finished off my outfit very nicely with the cute red hearts. The long shorts (sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it?) and red shirt were also previous sale bargains. I brought a few dresses with me but haven’t felt like wearing them. Knee length shorts are a good compromise (and definitely wind-proof!). The chocolate brown and red combination reflects the season whilst being appropriate for the subtropical climate of Madeira.
Yesterday we visited a musuem of 3D art, which was lots of fun. We took lots of silly photos and also escaped the showers. (I’ll post some of the photos on Instagram.) I’ve been to my favourite shop and made a few purchases. Zara was disappointing due a lack of colour. We’ll be spending the day at the lido tomorrow, enjoying what should be a dry and sunny day. I’ve missed my kitties and am looking forward to seeing them soon!

I think those shorts look perfect for a holiday! I love the color combination, too. That really is terrible about losing your hat to the wind because it’s so gloriously you! Thanks for the link up!

Emma, what a lovely mix of color and practicality; the chocolate brown and red look so striking together! Sorry to hear about your hat mishap, but at least you’ve got great memories (and photos!) from the trip. And thank you so much for featuring my post this week — such a wonderful surprise!

Emma you look fabulous. I am in love with this color combination.
What a pity about the hat! But the outfit looks very nice. The colours work well together. We are going to a3d exhibition in November. But at in 3d. We also been to a exhibition worth 3d products, years ago. Very cool! I hope you will have a few more sunny days to enjoy!
This is such an interesting colour combo! I like it.

Wonderful colour combo for the Autumn season, often difficult to translate into warmer weather, full marks. Losing your hat is a real bummer and an occupational holiday hazard particularly when it’s one you! Maurice has two expensive Tilley hats floating in the Indian Ocean.

Great outfit for a fall holiday, Emma! Hope you had a wonderful stay (aside from the loss of your hat. I have a favorite islet sun visor lost to the Chesapeake Bay this summer that I am still grieving! Love the red and chocolate brown together. It is such a rich and vibrant combination. Thanks so much for the favorite from last week, I really appreciate it. Hope you have a lovely week, and and thanks for hosting the link up and sharing these lovely photos of you at Madeira. Even the stonework that you stand on is beautiful!
That hat is adorable! I’m sorry it blew away! Love this entire outfit!

What a bummer to lose such a cool hat! Maybe it will find its way to my Phillip Lim sunglasses that are also currently sitting at the bottom of the sea! P.S. thank you for the feature!

What a lovely mix of tones — the chocolate brown with that bright pop of red feels rich and effortless! The outfit looks perfect for Madeira’s changing weather, and those shorts add such a chic, relaxed vibe. Sorry to hear about your hat — it really pulled the look together. Still, you’ve styled everything beautifully and kept the mood fresh and fun despite the wind!
I am sorry your hat flew away! It was a special one. Hopefully, you will eventually be able to get another one. Love this red and brown combination. Perfect for fall!

Beautifully styled and thoughtfully written. The chocolate brown and red palette feels rich yet effortless, perfectly suited to Madeira’s shifting climate. I love how comfort, practicality, and seasonal color come together so naturally—elegant, wearable, and full of quiet charm.
