Twist Front Print Dress

How’s your week going so far? Storm Ciara certainly made her presence felt on Sunday and is in no hurry to leave. It’s still very windy and rainy here in Cheshire. I’ve been keeping busy though; over the weekend I went through some old clothes and found lots that I haven’t worn for ages, including this twist front print dress. I bought it when Isobel was a baby, so it must be around ten years old. I used to wear it for work but it’s been stuffed away in a drawer for years.

This lightweight long sleeveless cardigan provides extra warmth and coverage without obscuring too much of the twist front print dress

At the time I bought several dresses in this thin, slinky material. It’s so thin that it only really works with tights (otherwise it would require some seriously structured underwear!). It really does show every lump and bump, plus it’s not very warm. Layering is definitely the key with this type of fabric. This lightweight long sleeveless cardigan provides extra warmth and coverage without obscuring too much of the twist front print dress. It’s a really useful piece – even though I had it for ages before wearing it! (I’ve previously featured it on the blog with workout leggings.) The extra layer creates an elongating effect without adding bulk, so I can easily fit a coat over the top.

To keep the look sleek I’ve chosen my Jennifer Hamley Mini KT bag and some black and white jewellery. To avoid adding too much black, I opted for chocolate-coloured boots and tights, which highlight the brown in the print of the dress. Now I’ve found a way to make this dress more wearable I won’t leave it in the drawer for almost another decade! The twist front detail is a really flattering design…and it provides pockets! Well actually, I’m not sure they are pockets but they give me somewhere to put my hands!

Nothing in this outfit is new; I’m trying to put my New Year style resolutions into practice and wear what I’ve got more. While I was looking through my old clothes I found a drawer-full of jumpers, including one I’ve been looking for all Winter. Plus I discovered a really nice one that I’d completely forgotten about! Happy days 🙂

Do you put clothes away and forget all about them, or do you keep your wardrobe organised?

  2. Pretty dress, love the print and colors. Your cuff goes perfectly too with the look! I have organized my closet more this year and did a big clean out in Winter and Spring of last year. It is easy to forget about certain things though.

I had it yesterday. I wanted to wear my new culottes, too be seen this Friday on the blog, but I never know what to wear on it. And every time I find out afterwards that I have a green sweater that I never have worn! Damn. It’s a lovely dress and I love the long vest /cardigan on it.

  8. Emma, this dress is so cool! I am getting all these really wild 70’s vibes from this outfit and I love it! I am definitely a clothes hoarder but I have a pretty decent mental inventory of what I own. Although I am certain there are things in the closet I have forgotten about. I am making improvements on my shopping habits…slowly but surely!

What a great way to update that dress! And you are so right about organizing one’s closet in a more efficient way! I hate it when I come across something and think, oh, I haven’t worn that for a while! Thanks for the inspiration.

That storm was no joke—my friend was on a flight from NYC that apparently broke a record due to speed (although she said it was the worst turbulence she’s ever experienced)!
