I couldn’t help but notice the array of polka dot prints in the shops when I was on holiday. It doesn’t seem that long ago that they were last trending, but then they’re never really not in style. So, as it was my turn to choose a theme for April’s Style Not Age, I thought we should do Polka Dots For Spring.
I was intending to wear a black and white blouse that I wore for a previous Style Not Age challenge, but then I realised I’d never featured these statement trousers before. The blue and ochre colourway with the net frill detail make them a real statement piece. I bought them on Vinted a while ago after buying another pair by the same label. In fact, my first By Moumi piece was the pink and white striped shirt, and my other trousers match it.
Bold, voluminous trousers can be tricky to style because while you’ll want to let the statement piece take centre stage, anything too basic teamed with it won’t do it justice. My immediate thought was this blue knit vest, but I also tried a long sleeve ochre top. My instinct was correct; a blue top creates a column effect, allowing the frill and contrasting dots stand out, while the flowers balance out the proportions.
Footwear wasn’t so easy to choose though. I have some flat shoes in blue with a yellow trim but I couldn’t find them. Typical. So I decided to go with these lemon motif espadrilles and continue the citrus theme with my bag and earrings. That way, it doesn’t matter that the shades of yellow are different; the lemons make it cohesive and deliberate. And fruit prints are also trending for spring/summer, so it’s a double win!
