Retro Floral Print Dress + Style With a Smile Link Up

June 7, 2022

How was your weekend? Did you enjoy the long jubilee bank holiday extravaganza? I’m exhausted after a very busy seven days of working and helping Isobel with her Rose Queen duties. On Saturday we were at a gala in a very nice Cheshire village where she scooped a trophy for best visiting queen!

Then on Sunday we had a stall at our town’s jubilee celebrations. (It should have been a street party but was moved to the town hall because of the rain.) We were selling handmade bracelets to raise money for the Polycystic Kidney Disease charity and it went really well. In fact, they were selling so quickly that I had to get Pete to bring my beading stuff so I could make more at the table! I’d sold some before I’d even finished making them! In total, we made just over £65 in four hours, much more than we expected. Maybe I should set up that business that’s been on the backburner for what feels like forever!

These cute flower earrings match this retro floral print dress rather well…

The earrings that I’m wearing today are a pair I made from polymer clay. They were the first batch I made and I wear them quite a lot. The beauty of polymer clay is that it’s so versatile, plus it’s very light. I can’t wear heavy earrings for very long because my holes are low on the lobe and they pull (maybe because I had them pierced when I was eight). However, I do love big statement earrings, so making my own from polymer clay gives me the option of choosing my own designs and colours. These cute flower earrings match this retro floral print dress rather well…in fact, they work well with a lot of my vintage and retro outfits.

I bought this dress recently in TKMaxx. Confession time: I only went in to buy a birthday present but I couldn’t resist a browse. As soon as I saw this print on the rail I made a beeline for it. I didn’t even try it on – I just held it up to make sure it would fit on the bust. It was reduced to £16, which I thought was an absolute bargain! It is loose on the waist, a style I’m not overly fond of. But as with other dresses, I used a belt to give it shape. I added a simple brown bag and neutral wedge espadrilles to complete the outfit. While I was paying it for it, the cashier said they’d had a green version of the dress too which was gorgeous. I’ve been looking online for it but to no avail…just out of curiosity, obviously!

Do you make impulse purchases, or do you carefully consider additions to your wardrobe?

Emma, it sounds like you had quite the busy and successful weekend. And aren’t the best finds the result of a “quick browse”? Usually, they are for me. This new dress of yours is no exception and you look fabulous.

Those are the best purchases aren’t they. Its a beautiful dress, I’ll bet the green one would look fabulous too. I have exactly the same with earrings so ugly when I wear to heavy ones. And how good of you to raise so much with selling those bracelets!

  9. Emma, I love this dress! What a fabulous floral print. I bet the green one is so pretty, too! I hope you find it! And your clay earrings are so darn cute and absolutely perfect with this vintage style. I am the queen of impulse purchases but I am trying to put a stop to it! I am in the middle of the biggest closet clean out ever and I am vowing to stop adding things that I never wear!
