Second Hand September – Style Not Age

For this month’s Style Not Age theme we are seeing out Second Hand September with some preloved bargains. It’s hard to believe it’s October tomorrow! Usually I’d be dreading the slide towards winter, but I’m looking forward to my appointment at the hospital tomorrow afternoon to have the wire removed from my toe. I’m hoping I’ll be able to ditch the ugly sandal and drive again too!

The weather has turned quite cool and rather wet and windy, typical autumn conditions. These photos were taken before my operation at the end of August when it was still warm. I’m glad I got to wear this top and skirt before the end of summer. I took them on holiday to Madeira but didn’t wear them. I found the top in a charity shop last year. It’s by Maison Scotch, so a premium brand. It’s one of those pieces that can be folded up to next to nothing, making it ideal for travelling. The skirt on the other hand doesn’t fare so well in a case; it creases as soon as I look at it!

I’ve had a bit of a thing for rust, cinnamon and terracotta hues lately

When my mum moved in with me we had a lot of clothes to sort through – many were too big for her. Among them was this rust coloured skirt, still with the tag on! When I put it next to the top I I realised that the two are a near perfect colour match! As I mentioned in this post, I’ve had a bit of a thing for rust, cinnamon and terracotta hues lately. Although the fabric is a bit high maintenance, I love the style as well as the shade. The elasticated waist and pockets are major plus points.

The third preloved item in this outfit for Second Hand September is the bangle. Over the years I’ve bought many bangles from charity shops; I have so many now that I’ll only buy more if it’s something really special. They’re good to stack in the style of Iris Apfel, but not always practical when working at a desk. All that clanging and banging on the keyboard can get a bit annoying. But then Iris wasn’t chained to a computer like most of us are!

Anna has chosen a beautiful dress that she bought on Vinted, sandals from Primark and sunglasses from Radley London. You can find out more at Anna’s Island Style.

Hilda found this fabulous vintage cashmere wool blazer by Louis Copeland for 50 euros. (Copeland makes men’s bespoke suits and blazers.) Hilda shopped her wardrobe for the rest…very chic! Head to Over the Hilda for all the details.

Jacqui found this elegant Monsoon LBD in a charity shop for the bargain price of £6! The jacket belonged to her daughter. You can catch up with Jacqui at Mummabstylish.

How fun you found this in your mom’s stuff! My mom and I didn’t have the same style, and she would never wear what I do. She was definitely of that older ladies wear this mindset even when she was in her 50s! Love the rust color!
