Welcome to the third installment from The Thrifty Six! We are a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month we all share an outfit based on a theme that features preloved pieces. Shopping and reselling preloved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand!
This month’s sparkly theme was chosen by Jane of Preloved-Vintage-Handmade. As we’re in the second half of November I don’t think it’s too early to break out the festive sequins and sparkles! That said, the Christmas tree is staying in the loft until December! I know a lot of us are ready to put 2020 behind us but Christmas decorations in November is a no-no in our house!
Usually I’d be starting to think about party outfits at this time of year, given that Christmas parties can be any time in December. But of course this year most of us will be staying at home instead of partying with friends and colleagues. We might not be going out but we can still get dressed up…it’s a shame to keep our festive sequins and sparkles in the wardrobe!
I bought this Kitri sequin dress on eBay about a year ago. Kitri is one of my favourite brands so I often search eBay, Depop and Micolet for new listings. Unfortunately last year’s festivities were also curtailed for me as I missed the work Christmas party due to being ill, and Pete had to work an early shift on New Year’s Eve. We were hoping to make up for it this year…oh well, best laid plans and all that! Consequently I’ve never had the occasion to wear this dress, so this month’s blogger collab provided the perfect opportunity.
The rose gold shade of the sequins is softer than bright yellow gold, and more flattering against most skin tones. Luckily my Betsey Johnson shoes are almost the exact same shade of gold so I doubled up on the sequins. (I’ve previously worn them with a red lace dress for a wedding). For contrast I chose my cute velvet cat bag, which you’ve seen many times before.

“So, I have this darling, colorful Dimora dress that I absolutely love, but on its own…it truly makes me look drabby and matronly 😱. But the colours are just too good and I really wanna wear it! So, here comes a bustier to change it all up while adding a good dose of pizzazz! Well I jumped for joy when I thrifted this one a few years back. I collect great accessories, so I was thrilled with this sequin darling. I do classify bustiers as accessories, as I rarely, if ever wear, them on their own. They are just the right thing to enhance any outfit. Take a look at how I styled up this one and tell me this outfit doesn’t make for great conversation😊”
“When Jane gave us the theme Sparkle, I immediately thought of my new glitter sweater! Wait….new???? We are The Thrifty Six! Oeps. I almost started to shop for a pre loved sparkly item and then ther light bulb started to glow! Yes, my, new to me, pre loved metallic silver looking skirt! I love this skirt. It’s so stretchy and easy to wear and yet so cool! Huray for sparkles!”
“When Jane chose sparkles as the theme this month, I used it as an opportunity to use my limited time 50% off coupon at my local Thrifty Shopper. That is where I found most of this outfit! The sequined chambray jacket might be my favorite thrifted item ever. I love the style, the color, and the fun sparkles!
The little black skirt and my graphic tee shirt are both bedazzled with lots of rhinestone sparkles as well. The jacket and tee shirt were both marked $4.99 and the skirt was marked $5.99. With my coupon, I paid $8 for all three pieces! My beaded bag was also a thrift shop find from Salvation Army and I paid $3 for it. Since we were going sparkly, I had to wear sparkle footwear as well. These gray shimmery booties are from Torrid a few years ago. And my Happiness Boutique Necklace and Earrings were the perfect accessories to showcase an outfit that’s all about the sparkle!”
“Sparkles in the darkness…
I wanted to truly capture the warm iridescent glow of this rose gold sequin dress. It comes to life when darkness falls!
A dress for underground nightclubs, louche parties and minor festive misdemeanours…
I stood in blackness throwing my body into sculptural shapes to twist and contort the glistening sequins.
I let the flash of the camera work its magic to reveal the resplendent lustre for all to see…”
“I instantly knew I wanted to style this sparkly rust-colored sweater for this month’s collab! Unfortunately, it was raining and very cold on photoshoot day, so I had to adjust my outfit to add a lil’ extra warmth. You can’t really tell in these pics, but I swear the sweater is sparkly! It has the prettiest gold threads throughout – a perfect outfit for Thanksgiving.”

Emma, this dress is so beautiful and it looks amazing on you! For a sequined dress, it looks incredibly comfortable, too. I do love the rose gold shade as well and your Betsey Johnson shoes are magnificent! I hope we get to dress up for actual outings soon!

Thank you Shelbee! Yes it is really comfortable – not scratchy like some sequin garments. I really hope we can all make up for this year’s crappiness in 2021!
You all look fabulous!

Thanks so much Lovely!
This sequin dress is so unique and such an amazing find! And the kitty purse is very cute as well. I agree, as ready as I am for Christmas, no decorations until December!

Thanks Grace! My daughter has already persuaded me to buy her some Christmas decorations for her bedroom but we’ve agreed that she has to wait until December 1st!
Love this sequinned dress Emma. Perfect for the party season. Currently, I don’t have anything with sequins. I need to rectify that. I’m going to check those websites you’ve suggested. Enjoy the rest of your week. xx
Thanks so much Alison! You too xx
Such a beautiful festive look! The dress is a stunner on you! I love the assymetrical hem and the one shoulder peeking out! I love the shoes and purse! We dont put our tree and decor up until after Thanksgiving. I love decorating and plan on leaving it up until the end of Feb as it makes you feel good!
