Mixing Double Check Prints + the 200th Style With a Smile Link Up

One thing that’s been on my “to buy” list for ages has been a cape coat. After regularly searching on eBay and not finding what I wanted I’d all but given up. Then by an amazing stroke of luck I saw that one of my favourite Instagram influencers – Astrid – was selling some fab pieces, including this cape coat. After chatting on DMs to check sizing I sent the money via Paypal and shortly afterwards it was mine!

Mixing double check prints works when they share common colours, even if they are different sizes

As well as looking very stylish, a cape coat makes it easier to wear statement sleeves. Plus, I can wear a chunky knit sweater underneath when it’s cold, or a thinner top when I’m out shopping – I tend to get hot and bothered when I’m whizzing around the shops. This grey check print will work with just about any colour but I wanted to try it with these black and white trousers. Mixing double check prints works when they share common colours, even if they different sizes. This outfit features black, white and various shades of grey in between. It’s very unlike me not to include colour!

Whenever I want to add to my wardrobe I always look for preloved items first

Buying this cape coat second hand meant I saved a load of money, and of course it’s better for the environment. Whenever I want to add to my wardrobe I always look for preloved items first. I’ve bought many pieces from eBay and charity shops but there are a number of sites where you can buy and sell clothes. Micolet UK has some fabulous preloved clothes and accessories at amazing prices. The blazers, bags and sunglasses are all tempting me! If you’re a Zara fan but prefer not to buy new then this site is great for a browse.

At the time I thought it was a bit extravagant to buy this bag in red and black, but they’ve proved so useful. You’ve probably seen them many times before – as clutch bags, crossbody bags and bumbags. I’m all for multi-tasking pieces!

I love statement sleeves in all their varieties and sheer puff sleeves are really popular at the moment. I have tops like this in various colours but black has maximim impact and can be styled for both day and evening. Swapping the check trousers for some faux leather ones would transform this outfit into one fit for the dancefloor…which in my case is currently located in the living room! We’ve got a lot of partying to do next year to make up for the privations of 2020!

While scrolling to get here and tell you how much I LOVE that top, I saw you featured my outfit with those other two stylish ladies. Thanks SO much, Emma. Your outfit is so classic. I always think of cape coats as such a “British” style, in a good way! They are a bit of a trend this year and it’s easy to see why.
