The decorations are gone and January is already living up to its reputation as being a difficult month; my mum moved in with us last week but after only a few days she’s back in hospital. It’s not serious, but certainly not the start we’d hoped for. We’re hoping she’ll be back home with us by the weekend.
It has turned very cold these last few days, so I need my warmest coats. I bought this Jakke yellow faux fur coat on Vinted for only £20. It’s really thick and warm…and also heavy! I do feel a bit like Big Bird wearing it…not that that’s a bad thing! Looking through my trousers, I was drawn to these purple ones to pair with the golden yellow jacket. They’re part of the Zara suit that I wore for September’s Style Not Age post. I also wore the trousers more recently with a green frilly blouse.
I was about to choose a bright yellow jumper, but then I found this striped sparkly one. It matches the golden yellow of the coat better and has some purple in it too. I bought it in a charity shop a couple of years ago but this is the first time I’ve worn it. My purple Ted Baker sunglasses and Teddy Blake bag finished off the look.
I’m not one for New Year resolutions, I think they are often unrealistic and unsustainable. However, I began thinking about what I’d like to achieve (both in terms of habits and goals) by my 50th birthday in July around my birthday last year. My foot problems forced me to stop running, so I began doing HIIT workouts instead and I’m surprised by how much I like them. I intend to keep pushing myself with these (although impending foot surgery will limit me for a couple of months). But hopefully, I will be able to start running again some time this year.
Something else I want to get back to is playing and learning music. I played classical guitar and piano, and studied music at degree level for a while, before deciding to pursue journalism instead. I’ve realised that learning/relearning both playing and music theory is something I should have picked up again years ago. Better late than never though, right?

Pursuing your love of music sounds good Emma. I have a big year ahead after Dee and I split up. Just getting back to normality will be my priority xx
Love the Jakke jacket. I often look longingly at them on the Bias Cut website. Will start stalking them! x

What a pity your mother is on hospital. Let’s hope she’s back with you soon so that she can enjoy her new way of life. I don’t do resolutions either, I just hope to stay as healthy as possible. I hope for you that you can start running again!
Hope all is good with your mum. What a great find your jacket is, you have inspired me to hop over to Vinted for a look. No plans yet – our sixteen-year-old cat has been back and forth to the vet since September – we all have our fingers crossed and don’t want to leave him. My youngest is working in Hong Kong, so will check how much the flights are later in the year.

Oh Emma I love this combination. I picked some material when I was younger, for my mum to make me a dress it was these colours. She never did get round to making it and I reckon she’s probably still got the fabric. Jacqui x
That coat does look really warm and cozy! I didn’t think big bird at all! Just warm and happy!
Happy early birthday! I think you should celebrate doing something you enjoy doing. I love the purple with this coat that’s one of my favourite colours. Have a great weekend.
