Statement sleeves are a really big trend at the moment and one that I love. I know big flappy sleeves are not the most practical things, especially if you’re trying to eat a meal or play the guitar, but sometimes allowances have to be made in the name of fashion! The sleeves on this Zara top are actually quite tame compared to some I’ve seen so they won’t cause me too many problems.
The flared faux leather sleeves elevate what is otherwise a plain black top, which can be dressed up or down. I’ve got a few pairings in mind for this top; it’ll look great with boyfriend jeans, cigarette trousers, maybe even a flared midi skirt…there are so many possibilities. However, for its debut I decided to turn up the volume. Combining a leather skirt and statement sleeves creates a bold and edgy look, especially in black. The mix of fabrics in the skirt mirror those in the top, and the faux fur bag adds another dimension. Of course I had to add a little bit of colour, this time with jewellery. I’m slightly obsessed with feathers, so much so that I have a Pinterest board just for feathery fashion!
This outfit is a bit of a Zara-fest – I bought the top, boots and faux fur bag flap in the sale just after Christmas. You may remember the bag in previous posts (here, here and here) looking a bit different. That’s because this bag has detachable flaps so you can change it to suit your outfit..genius huh? Zara also came up trumps (should we still be using that phrase?) in the footwear department with these gorgeous glitter boots. They are just sparkly enough to satisfy the glitter craving without being too ostentatious.

Thanks Laurie! Yes, I’m addicted to statement necklaces 🙂 I’ve seen some really nice 3/4 flared sleeve tops that would work for shorter arms. I have the opposite problem – I have long monkey arms!
Great top, goes so well with the skirt. I love the pink feathers and ring.
