It’s the last Monday of the month which means it’s time for the latest Style Not Age challenge. March’s theme is all about a style icon I’ve emulated twice before on the blog. I was very saddened by the recent passing of Iris Apfel, whom I greatly admired. Anna suggested we pay tribute to her for this month’s Style Not Age. Very fitting, don’t you think?
Back in 2019, the (now defunct) Match Made in Seven blogger group posted an Ode to Iris Apfel. I loved putting that outfit together, so I was inspired to revisit it. Almost two years ago to the day, we posted our Iris Apfel inspired outfits, which was my choice. This was to coincide with the launch of her collection with H&M, which sold out in a flash. I missed out and was gutted, but I played the long game and picked up this suit and shoes (plus a maxi skirt) on resale sites for reasonable prices, which is nothing short of a miracle!
For me, Iris was the queen of style, I just adored every single outfit of hers. Incidentally, she was born in Queens, New York so I think she deserves the title. I would have loved to have met her. Can you imagine perusing her vast collection of clothes and accessories? I couldn’t not wear my suit from her H&M collection for my Ode to Queen Iris, it’s the jewel in my wardrobe!
The green faux fur jacket is a lookalike of one from that collaboration, but mine was much cheaper! Iris often wore brightly coloured faux fur coats to make a statement. I have several, including my fabulous Jayley rainbow coat which I adore. Of course, no Iris-inspired outfit would be complete without necklaces and big sunglasses! To pick up on the embellishment on the suit I layered pearl necklaces. I would have liked more but these were all I could find. I’m wearing a chunky bangle on each arm but the coat is covering them up. To finish off the look I added a pair of Iris earrings by Erstwilder which I bought on Vinted recently.
I’ve just ordered her book Accidental Icon and I can’t wait to read it and feast my eyes on her opulent outfits!

Anna has piled on the necklaces, which work perfectly with the fabulous printed suit. Pop over to Anna’s Island Style to read more.
Hilda discovered in the book Accidental Icon, that Iris was one of the first women to wear jeans. So that was the starting point for this outfit. Hilda’s jeans are from Cos, paired with a beautiful shirt from Never Fully Dressed. Visit Over the Hilda for all the details.
Gail is taken her inspiration from the bright colours Iris was so fond of. The mix of apricot, lime and bright orange is perfect for Spring! Head over to Is This Mutton? to see more.
Jacqui of Mummabstylish has chosen a gorgeous lurex dress, topped off with a waistcoat and plenty of beads and bangles.

Emma, Iris would certainly be proud of this outfit! I know it’s her design, but you’ve put it together with other elements so well. Plus, you look gorgeous in it! I cannot believe you’ve gotten all the pieces right down to those glorious shoes! I think I will put her book on my wishlist for when my kiddos ask me what to buy as gifts.

Such fun to see this theme with other bloggers! Your suit is fabulous, but I really am thrilled by the shoes! I would put them on a display!
You look fabulous!
