Do you remember the hype around the Iris Apfel x H&M collaboration last year? (I had to double check that because it feels way longer ago than that!) Well, I was poised ready to buy a few pieces…only to find it had sold out in minutes! Not one to be defeated, I vowed to play the waiting game. And it has been a case of watching and waiting. Within minutes of the launch the most sought after pieces were listed on eBay at ridiculous prices. I figured that nobody in their right mind would pay three or four times the RRP (and the price point wasn’t exactly cheap to start with). So I set up alerts on eBay and Vinted and waited.
The first piece I found at a reasonable price on eBay was the blue pea print trousers that were part of a suit. Soon after, I stumbled upon a green shaggy jacket in TK Maxx that’s very similar to the one in the H&M collection and paired them together (seen here). I really wanted the matching suit jacket but with prices as high as £500 on resale sites I didn’t think I’d ever get one. But then miraculously one appeared on Vinted for the original price so I snapped it up. I’ve yet to wear them together but I will soon. More recently, this Iris Apfel x H&M maxi skirt popped up on Vinted for only £25…happy days!
As you can see, it’s very long – for reference, I’m 5’7″ and it’s dragging on the floor. I am wearing my Vivaia flat mules though. A chunky heeled sandal would probably give me enough elevation to skim the ground. What you can’t see though is the weight; it’s much heavier than it looks. Maybe not one for taking on holiday! There is a matching pussy bow blouse which I’d love, but they are currently on eBay for around £180…I don’t want it that badly! My £7 bargain pink top from Tesco makes an excellent substitute. I hesitated to buy it but I’m so glad I did because it’s lovely and airy, perfect for humid summer days.
