A few weeks ago we had a wonderful five days in Switzerland, staying with friends who live by Lake Zug. Although it was a short trip we managed to packs lots in, including a day on the lake and hiking up a mountain. With so many different activities, knowing what to pack was a challenge. I’m hopeless at travelling light, especially when going somewhere for the first time.
Of course I packed far too much, mainly because it was hotter than I’d expected. Obviously I checked the weather forecast before leaving so I knew it was going to be warm, but I thought the evenings would be cooler. Well, I was wrong, and the jacket, jumper and poncho stayed in the case. As well as enjoying the great outdoors, we decided to hop on a train to experience a bit of city life Swiss style. It was really hot with the temperature reaching the high 20s so I needed a comfortable, chic outfit for a day sightseeing in Zurich. I teamed my Zara gingham floral print skirt with a simple black vest and flat sandals to keep me cool.
The colours in the print of this skirt makes it very versatile. Last time I paired it with a red one shoulder top, but it would also work well with a blue, white or green top. This black vest (which I’ve had for ages) travels well because it doesn’t crease and goes with practically everything. It’s made of a lightweight fabric that feels a bit like swimsuit material so I can wash it by hand and it dries in no time. My red leather backpack provided the perfect combination of style and practicality, picking up on the red in the floral print. I bought it about 15 years ago on the Greek island of Symi while on holiday in Rhodes. It’s served me very well over the years and is still going strong.
I wore my new shades from Amevie which you may have seen in my previous post. Even though the lenses are ice blue they actually cast a warm tint when looking through them. With my new hat from Mango (only £4.99 in the sale!) and flat padded sole sandals I was super comfy all day. I’d been warned that clothes are very expensive in Switzerland so I wasn’t planning on doing any shopping, but out of curiosity I had a browse in a few shops…and came out empty handed! This is not bargainista fashionista territory! Even the souvenir shops were out of my price range. Sorry mum, no novelty cow bell or fridge magnet.
Never mind, we didn’t go to shop, but we did have an amazing lunch at Europe’s oldest vegetarian restaurant (post on that to come soon). The trains ran like clockwork and everywhere was immacutely clean. I could get used to the Swiss way of life…if I stopped buying clothes. Wait…who am I kidding? That’s never going to happen!
