We’ve had some gorgeous sunny weather here in the North West, although I haven’t really had much time to fully enjoy it. I do like to go for a walk on my lunch break though, even if it’s cold. It gives me an excuse to wear my collection of coats!
I’m really into retro and vintage pieces at the moment (in case you hadn’t noticed!), particularly 60’s and 70’s styles. Since I bought the brown and orange crocheted vest from The Chain Designs a couple of months ago I’ve been looking for more in other colourways. I found this one on eBay for less than £20 including delivery – a very reasonable price, especially considering it’s handmade. Black trousers seemed like the obvious choice to pair with this vest, but I wanted to add another colour into the mix. Step forward my oh-so-versatile green cord trousers. They are so comfortable, I could wear them every day. I love the retro vibe of the cords and crocheted vest, especially topped off with the collarless coat and peaked cap.
The pale blue coat is quite old now (I first featured it here in 2015) but I haven’t worn it much. It matches my Fabienne Chapot peaked cap really well – something I’d never noticed before. My bag and sunglasses add a deeper blue to the colour palette.
I often wear these cord trouser with my dark green boots for that leg-lengthening effect; the only problem with that is the block heels sometimes catch on the turn-ups – I almost fell down the stairs at work once! The only remedy is to go down the stairs in the manner of John Wayne, which kind of kills the look! I’m taking the lift whenever possible from now on!

Emma,
Each of your retro outfits have been fabulous. I really like how you’ve taken to crocheted pieces since that is a hobby of mine.

Thanks Nancy!
Emma, I love these colors together! The light blue with the dark green is so fabulous. And this vintage crocheted vest is just so wonderful! I just found 3 of these vests in a keepsake bin a few months ago. My mother made them for us in the 70’s! They are child sized though and my sister wanted them for her grandkids. But now they are in a keepsake bin at her house because the kids won’t wear them. And speaking of your heel getting caught in the cuff of your pants…that did happen to me! Many years ago when I worked in New York City, I had a lunch date (a first date) and we went shopping at Banana Republic after lunch. My date called my name to show me a shirt he liked and as I spun around to look, my heel caught in my pant cuff and I fell straight away into a clothing rack, knocking the whole thing down, making a huge scene, and tearing my pant leg! All I could do was laugh hysterically as a sales associate helped me right myself again. My date got so embarrassed that he literally walked out of the store and I never heard from him again! Hahaha. So definitely be careful when wearing cuffed trousers and heeled boots!

OMG Shelbee, that’s hilarious! I sat at my desk at work reading your comment and couldn’t stop giggling! As for your date, well I guess he showed his true colours – falling over was probably a blessing in disguise!
Lovely colour combination, Emma! That ‘vest / tank’ is super pretty!

Thank you Suzy!
Your vest brought back a ton of memories for me. In the USA we called it a granny square and when I was young, my grandmother made one for me. Thanks for hosting the party.
I’ve seen them on eBay called granny squares. My nan used to crochet things like this but it wasn’t considered fashionable when I was a child – I just wish I’d asked her to teach me so I could make them. I’m hoping a few YouTube tutorials will get me started on the basics. Thanks for stopping by Paula!
Love this colour combination, style and retro vibe. Love the tank top – the seventies is my favourite era. xx
Thanks Alison!
I really love the vest!

Thanks Mireille!
I got a good laugh at the thought of you going down the stairs “like John Wayne!” Lol! I know exactly what you meant! You have such beautiful coats, Emma, and I do believe my grandma crocheted lots of things with the same pattern as that vest! Retro indeed! Super cute and beautifully styled.
xx Darlene
Thanks so much Darlene! The things we do in the name of fashion hey? My grandmother crocheted lots of beautiful throws and blankets, I just wish I’d taken the time to learn from her. She taught me to knit but crocheting always seemed more difficult, but looking back I think it might have been easier with just one needle for little hands. I’m going to do some online tutorials to see if I can learn the basics.
As always, the way you put colors together is so striking! Love the retro vibes of this outfit—I totally had a poncho in a similar pattern when I was young 🙂
