Fruit Print Shirt and Trousers + Style With a Smile Link Up

We’re back from our trip and recovering from a very early flight. Our taxi picked us up at 3.45am for a 6am departure, so we got very little sleep. After reading stories about people missing their flights elsewhere in Europe due to the new EES (EU entry-exit system) we were worrying about having enough time. Thankfully it was all fine as there were only two other planes departing around the same time. Another Brexit “bonus”!

Earlier in the week we walked from Funchal along the coastal path to Câmara de Lobos. It’s a really pretty walk, with cafes along the way. From Forum Madeira shopping centre, it’s about 5km and mostly flat, unlike a lot of the city. I think my legs are stronger after going up and down the steep hills for 10 days!

We had lunch in Câmara de Lobos, at a hotel overlooking the sea and fishing boats. It was a bit breezy but a beautiful view. Winston Churchill set up his easel and painted the bay in 1950 on a visit to Madeira to promote the reopening of the Reid’s Palace Hotel after WWII. He is immortalised in a statue outside the Pestana Churchill Bay Hotel (see last photo).

I wore this fruit print shirt and trousers together on my last visit to the island

Cabo Girão – the highest promontory in Europe – is in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos. It was one of the first places we visited on the island back in 2019. With its famous suspended glass platform (known as a skywalk) its viewpoint is currently one of the most visited tourist attractions in Madeira.

I wore this fruit print shirt and trousers together on my last visit to the island. It’s a lovely cool and airy outfit, perfect for the warm weather. My trusty FitFlops kept me comfortable and my fab Ollie & Nic bag was perfect for the occasion. I had to hold on to my hat a lot though (remember I lost one to the wind last time!).

Exploring the quiter towns makes a nice change from the bustle of Funchal. Maybe when we get a bit braver and hire a car, we’ll explore further afield. I’ve never driven abroad and some of the roads on the island are very windy. Also, I’ve never driven on the right or in a left-hand drive car, so it would be a lot to cope with. I need to practice somewhere quiter first!

We were in Funchal many years ago and fell in love with it. We hired a car and drove around. It was quite challenging at the beginning, as we in Australia drive on the same side as in UK, then my husband got the hand of it. Love your outfit, it reflects the vibe of the place beautifully 🙂
