My goodness, it’s been unbearably hot and humid this last couple of days. As if trying to keep cool isn’t hard enough, I had a two and half hour drive across country to my mum’s in a car with no air conditioning yesterday. It was hideous and I sweated buckets. We shot these photos just before I left and I travelled in this outfit. The only saving grace was my drink stayed cold in this cup from Personalized Cart (warm water in a plastic bottle is gross!).
Now before I go any further I just want to say that I’m not a fan of shorts. I don’t consider my legs to be the best part of my body so I don’t wear short shorts when I’m out and about. But when the weather is this sticky something has to give. Luckily I ordered these shorts in the Zara sale recently, even though I was doubtful that they’d suit me. Well, I’m happy to be proved wrong because they are just the right length for me to feel comfortable wearing them out in public. The fabric is lightweight, but not too thin so that my underwear shows through. (They have nice deep pockets too!) The print and longer length of these shorts makes them appropriate for day or evening…at last I’ve figured out how to dress up shorts and stay cool in the heat!
I couldn’t bear anything other than a vest top, and this ancient brown one was all I could find that matched. To make it look a little dressier I added an equally old wooden necklace. Teaming a statement necklace with a plain top is one of my favourite tricks for elevating basic items. To compliment the necklace I picked out a wooden stretch bracelet that I bought from Mango last year, but I added a little colour with my new Ottoman Hands ring and earrings. Neutral shoes and bag finished off the outfit, along with my favourite sunhat.
This stainless steel Yeti cup is ideal if you enjoy a cold beer in the garden on a hot Summer’s day. It’s available in five colours and there are nine fonts to choose from if you want it engraved with your name – that’s one way to ensure nobody accidentally swipes your drink at a BBQ! According to the website the cup keeps drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours – although my drinks never last that long…hot or cold! The longest I’ve made a drink last in mine is a couple of hours and it did stay cold. In the cooler months I’ll be taking it to work to keep my coffee hot…but I don’t want to think about Winter right now; however uncomfortable this heat may be, I’m not ready to say goodbye to Summer just yet! Maybe just a few degrees cooler would be nice though 😉

You look amazing in this outfit! You have great legs!
Hi dear Emma,
In my opinion, your legs look good in shorts! I would swap with you immediately! I wear on hot days mostly comfortable, wide swinging maxi dresses or maxi skirts – there is also good air underneath 😉
Hugs my dear, Traude

I think you look great in those shorts. It’s been totally hot and humid here too, ugh!!
LOVE this outfit. Really nice to see brown shades. The necklace looks so cool with the shorts.
I love the print on those shorts and that amazing necklace. I don’t know how you survived without AC! I don’t know if I could have!
hasn’t it been hot! I’ve been wearing next to nothing! It’s thundering as I write this though! I know it’s going to be cooler tomorrow too.
The shorts are gorgeous. I prefer a smarter short and these are great. Thank you for featuring xx
Very nice shorts! I like the colors and fun tribal print. Your wooden necklace and espadrilles compliment them perfectly!
What a fabulous necklace! Great Summer look!
Great summer style here. These shorts are flowy without being bulky and almost look like a cute skirt. You are definitely ready for a tropical vacation or a safari in this stylish summer outfit.
Loving the safari vibe of your look, and hope you stay cool in this heat!

I just heard beer and I stopped looking at the outfit. Mug and outfit are both perfect for a summer day
Hi Emma
Sorry I am late to the party! Love this ensemble on you! The wooden necklace does just that with the tank, elevates it and I love wood necklaces too. Such a neat print on your shorts, they look great on you. I love the neutral colors in summer and you got to stay cool!
Hubby had one of these Simply Modern steel drink cups and convinced me to get one. I have a 32 oz and drink water all day… filling it several times. It keeps it cold for 48 hours and I love that as it gets dry in our bedroom and I have it right on my nightstand
Have a great week
Jess xx
