Match Made in Seven: California Dreaming

Welcome to the monthly edition of Match Made in Seven! We are an international group of fashion bloggers who meet once a month. One of us chooses a theme in turn, and that can be anything: a book, music, a color, a movie…  and then we style an outfit based on that theme. This month Darlene chose the theme of California Dreaming!

Well I’ve got to admit that it really baffled me! I found very little inspiration at Pinterest (my go-to source of ideas when I’m stuck). So I plumped for the obvious connotations of sunshine, blue sky and sea. Hence the colour palette of yellow, blue, turquoise and orange. It’s actually a reworking of a previously seen outfit from almost seven years ago! On that occasion I wore the Reiss pleated skirt and yellow top with orange shoes and bag.

I didn’t have any flowers to wear in my hair, but these cute sunglasses are the next best thing!

I wanted to change my accessories so as not to replicate the outfit exactly, so I chose my Carvela yellow patent shoes and blue Love Moschino bag. California made me think of the song lyrics “If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair”. Well I didn’t have any flowers to wear in my hair, but these cute sunglasses are the next best thing! I also added a blue enamel flower ring to continue the theme.

  7. Emma,
You sure know how to put an outfit together! I love your interpretation of the theme–the colors are the ones I think of, too, as they say summer! Your sunglasses are such a great idea–how cute about the “flowers in her hair” reference! I didn’t even think about that!!

Thanks for your thoughtful insight on this month’s theme.
    xx Darlene
