Celebrating my birthday in France has become something of a tradition over the last few years…one I intend to keep going 😉 Wearing yellow on these trips across the Channel has also been a regular feature. I brought my Marks and Spencer sundress to Brittany two years ago, and I climbed the steps of the Eiffel Tower in my bright yellow satin top.
It’s my favourite colour to wear in Summer, especially with the sun is shining. I stayed well away from yellow until I starting dyeing my hair red; suddenly it suited me, rather than washing me out like it did with my blonde highlights. Just before I came away on holiday I ordered a few things from the Other Stories sale. Unfortunately everything apart from this dress was a big disappointment: a jumpsuit was too short in the body, two skirts were thin and too clingy, and a marigold-hued linen dress made me look like a Buddhist monk! This yellow asymmetric midi dress was definitely a keeper though, I love the soft butter hue and the high neck.
However, there are a couple of things I don’t like about this dress; it creases easily (and it’s a pain to iron). Also, the three small buttons at the back are fiendishly difficult to do up. I couldn’t do them myself and had to get Isobel to help me (those little fingers are useful!). So it’s not a dress you could put on in a hurry, especially if you’re on your own. But I like it too much to send it back…I’ll just have to make sure help is at hand when I want to wear it. It’s showing as £51 in the ShopStyle widget, but it’s actually only £26. I’ve noticed that ShopStyle is often slow to reflect price reductions.
As I was limited with my luggage allowance I only brought one handbag, which didn’t look right with this dress. Given the choice though I’d opt for a pretty clutch. The gold wedge espadrilles were as much a necessity as a choice too, although they do go with pretty much anything; that’s why I take them on every holiday. I’ve added my fun Jeepers Peepers flower sunglasses and gold tone jewellery to finish off the look.

Oh Emma, it is such a pretty dress and the color is wonderful on you! Those quaint little buttons are a darling detail (but I can see how they would be fiendish). These photos are stunning, too!

That is such an unusual dress! The colour and cut are both divine. I do like the neckline although I think I’d get too hot in it over here in Portugal in the summer. I’m also a big fan of yellow in the summer but I don’t think I’ve worn that much of it this year!
