Bom dia from Funchal! Well, actually, it’s more like Boa noite as it’s evening now. We’ve been back in Funchal a couple of days and it’s lovely to feel the warmth and see the ocean. The journey wasn’t exactly straightforward; first we got caught up in a crowd of protestors on the tram to Manchester airport. Then the flight was delayed because of the bad weather. We hadn’t been in the air very long when the lady in front of me was taken ill and the cabin crew asked if there were any medical professionals on board. (Thankfully the lady was ok).
But the landing was not for nervous flyers – it was very turbulent and the first attempt had to be aborted. After circling for about 20 minutes the pilot said we could have one more try but if that had to be aborted we’d be diverted – most likely to Tenerife. Thankfully we did land in Funchal…prompting clapping and cheering from the passengers! I’m not at all nervous about flying but I wouldn’t want to experience that again! We finally got to the apartment at 3am. I’ve slept a lot since!
We’re sharing two cases between the three of us so I had to be selective when packing. The only new item of clothing I brought with me this time is this orange gingham dress that I bought on sale at Monki. (It’s still available at the sale price in a size small at time of writing). The sleeves are long – even for me and I have very long arms – but as they are elasticated it’s easy to push them up. The dress matches my holiday wardrobe favourites of coral FitFlops and white reversible bag. This is the first time I’ve taken these sunglasses from The Hippie Shake on holiday – I’m glad I brought them because the cream frame and fun flower chain work well with the dress.
We haven’t done anything adventurous yet – only sunbathing and wandering around the shops. But we are planning to go on a short levada walk on Thursday. Levadas are irrigation channels that you can walk along. Most of the trails are accessible but some are more arduous. We’ll just do an easy one as a taster and maybe challenge ourselves to a longer one another time!

Melody Jacob, Laurie of Vanity and Me and Iris of La Moumous!
I am a very nervous flyer so I would be trying to figure out how to get home other than a plane. I always tell myself it’s just like a pothole in the sky!
I think this dress is just darling, and you look fabulous in it, Emma! Your FitFlops look so comfy, too. I’ve never been to Portugal (or Spain for that matter…hahaha), but this looks beautiful! Thanks for the link up!

Thanks Marsha! A pothole in the sky – I love that!
Oh wow, I love gingham so much. What a gorgeous dress. I was watching money for nothing yesterday and there was this sort of cabinet that was painted orange green and lilac and I immediately thought of you!
Enjoy your holiday!
I love Money For Nothing! I didn’t realise you could get it in the Netherlands. I get all sorts of ideas about upcycling watching that programme – none of which I’ve actually got around to doing yet!
What a traumatic start! But probably worth it for some warmth and sunshine. Have a lovely time. The dress is gorgeous! xx
Thanks Gail! Oh it was definitely worth it. Funchal airport has a short runway so it’s often a challenging landing!
This dress is so cute!

Thanks Kathrine!
So sorry about the landing issues! I’ve never had that before and would be so scared! Love your beautiful dress! Hope you are enjoying yourself now!
Thanks Laura! It was all good once we landed and the weather was great!
Omg Emma, that sounds so scary! I’d have been terrified too and I don’t mind flying!
Hope you can relax now, the dress is so pretty and that colour suits you so much. Jacqui x
Thanks Jacqui. I think the flight being delayed was a blessing really because 44 flights to Madeira had been cancelled that day. The wind had dropped by the time we got there but it was still bumpy!
I love your dress! Such a great color on you! Sounds like a rough start to your trip though. I hope it’s going much better!! <3
