Do you remember the fabulous flower power trouser suit I wore for New Year’s Eve at home? Well, I loved it so much I’ve made a few more purchases from The Hippie Shake. I just couldn’t resist this psychedelic wide leg jumpsuit when it went on sale briefly. I just can’t get enough of retro prints at the moment and they don’t get any better than The Hippie Shake’s Retrospective collection. It seems my taste in clothes is becoming more flamboyant the older I get…nothing wrong with that I guess! Life is too short for boring clothes.
I think bright and eye-catching outfits please both the wearer and observers; that’s certainly how I feel. My eyes immediately zone in on unusual outfits in a crowd, and even if they are not exactly to my taste I appreciate the creativity that has gone into them. Speaking of creativity, I’ve really got into RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. I’d never appreciated before how much work goes into creating a drag queen’s look: making the costume, the makeup, the hair and nails – I feel quite basic in comparison! Not that I want to go out dripping in jewels or wearing a dress made of brillo pads, but you know, it’s good to get some inspiration…I’ll give the six inch heels a miss though!
I wear the flower power suit quite regularly for work but this psychedelic wide leg jumpsuit is definitely for nights out and special occasions (when “normal life” resumes). I’ve teamed it with yellow cord boots and a baker boy cap for more of a daytime look. However, as it’s not that easy to get on and off I probably wouldn’t wear it for extended periods of time. It has a zip at the side and very small buttons with elasticated loops on the front which are very fiddly. Even so, I still struggle a bit to get it over my shoulders. Going to the bathroom needs careful pre-planning due to all those small buttons! That doesn’t make me love it any less though.
I do think that the jumpsuit would look better with a thin belt, as it’s worn on the website. That would just help to add definition to the waist and break up the print a little. This print gives plenty of options in terms of accessories, but I’ve picked out the brown and orange with my hat, bag and handmade earrings. I actually made these earrings to go with the flower power suit, but they work well with this jumpsuit too.
Although there isn’t any bright yellow in the print, in does feature a kind of yellowy beige shade (I’m not really sure what you’d call it). It looks more vibrant IRL, which is what prompted me to try these yellow boots with it instead of my white ones. For a full on evening look I’ll swap the boots and crossbody bag for platform sandals and a metallic or faux fur clutch. I can’t wait to get some 70s disco tunes on and party with friends!

I love- this on you, Emma. You look pretty fabulous in that print. Yes, I wore psychedelic prints in the day and even had a hot pink psychedelic printed jumpsuit in highschool. But don’t think I could do one now and honestly, I don’t think I have a desire to. Now, if I could score an original Peter Max scarf, that would be different!
Oh my goodness Emma!
This is a groovy outfit!
I was just thinking you could be in a James Bond or Ausin Powers movie!!
I love how fashion keeps recycling trends!

So fabulous, Emma! I am loving all of your new vintage styles lately. You really wear this style genre well! And even with no yellow in this magnificent printed jumpsuit, the yellow boots are perfect with it! I really need a pair of yellow boots and I love that these are corduroy! So very cute.

So very Groovy Emma! I dig that jumpsuit on you! The colors are vibrant and 70s and the style is very flattering. It reminds me of a dress I have, similar to an Emilio Pucci pattern. Those velvet booties are the best too!
Have a great day!
