I stumbled upon this purple flounce kaftan dress while browsing the H&M website for something else and it immediately jumped out at me. However, when I clicked on the link it had sold out. I looked at similar dresses but none quite tickled my fancy like this one. But then a week or so later I got a notification saying it was back in stock so I was there like a shot. And the cherry on the cake was I had a 25% discount code so it was £30 instead of £40. I ordered a small because I knew this style would run big. and that was definitely the right decision.
It’s probably best suited for holidays as it would be perfect for throwing on over a bikini. It’s quite sheer so I’ve layered a nude slip underneath. I love the deep purple silky fabric – I feel like the big purple one in the Quality Street tin! (That was always my favourite Quality Street chocolate as a child – a treat we only had at Christmas). I kept my accessories neutral with a wicker bag and blush satin wedges. My hair was not behaving so I tied it back and added an embellished headband to disguise the mess! Gold jewellery and big sunglasses always add that necessary touch of glamour, whether it’s for posing poolside or being out and about.
Not surprisingly, this purple flounce kaftan dress has sold out again. But there are a few to be found on eBay (this one is in the UK and this one is in the US). As is often the case, popular sold out pieces often appear on resale sites at more than the original retail price. However, it’s worth adding them to your watch list if you really want them; if nobody bites, after a while the seller will sometimes lower the price or make you an offer. You have to play the game!
Even pieces from the collection H&M did with Iris Apfel are coming down in price on eBay now…they were being listed for downright ridiculous prices! I can’t stand these so-called “scalpers” who buy up highly sought after stock to resell at highly inflated prices. If there’s something I really want I’m prepared to play the long game. Patience really does pay off in the end!

How lucky you were to find that fabulous caftan! And I’m with you, I hate it when a collection sells out right away then everything pops up on the resale sites for a gazillion times the price—not cool!

This is such a fun flouncy kaftan, Emma, and the purple is so wonderful on you! I really like your cute little wicker bag, too. I have never played the ebay shopping game because I just don’t have the patience. But I do admire your patience and tenacity for watching and waiting it out until you get the thing you love for a great deal! You always do find the most amazing and unique pieces.
