Welcome to August’s installment of Style Not Age! This month it was my turn to choose the theme and I was mindful of the weather being somewhat unpredictable. The fashion world may be over Summer and already looking ahead to Autumn/Winter, but the temperature in the UK is keeping us on our toes! However, one “trend” (if you can call it that) stood out for me in the A/W style round ups: purple. It’s a very regal colour, hence the title of Purple Reign (which also gives a nod to one of my favourite albums).
I don’t have that much purple in my wardrobe, even though I do really like the colour. The most challenging thing was finding an outfit that I wasn’t going to pass out in because it was in the mid 20s when we took these photos. My purple coat and Escada jacket were out of the question! I also have a purple skirt but I prefer to wear it with black tights and boots, so that was another option out of the running.
Luckily, a few years ago I went a bit mad for Asos peg leg trousers and bought them in about five different colours, purple being one of them. I’ve worn them twice before on the blog – once with a tropical print T-shirt and later with a gingham blouse. For this outfit I wanted to add more purple, while adding in some contrasting colours. This Hawes and Curtis blouse fits the bill perfectly. The bold print has plenty going on, so I had a number of options in terms of complimenting accessories. However, the orange provides the strongest contrast against the purple so I chose that as my accent colour.
It took a bit of digging around to find these sandals, but I eventually found them under the bed in the spare room. (I really need a better system for storing shoes!) I added a mix of orange and purple jewellery, plus my Ted Baker purple sunglasses that I always seem to wear with these trousers!
The trousers really needed a belt but I don’t have one that works with this outfit, so I improvised and used a chiffon scarf instead. It doesn’t stay in place (as you can probably see from the photos) but it adds more purple to the outfit and prevents the trousers from looking too baggy on the hips. I rarely wear belts – especially thin ones for trousers – they’re one accessory that I just don’t consider. Maybe I need to add a couple more to my wardrobe. Any excuse to go shopping 😉
