It’s the last Style Not Age instalment of the summer (sob). Although I didn’t always enjoy the very hot weather, I certainly don’t look forward to the approaching change of season. It’s a funny time of year, sartorially speaking; it’s too late for summer clothes, but still too warm for autumn outfits. That was one of the reasons I chose shirt dresses for this month’s theme, as they are very adaptable to the changing seasons. I also have a lot of shirt dresses in various colours, patterns and lengths.
This midaxi length (in between a midi and maxi) is ideal for transeasonal dressing, as is the colourway. The pink and brown tones straddle the seasons. As we head further into autumn, I’ll switch the sandals for ankle or knee boots, with tights in cooler weather. A cropped jacket is my favourite layering piece for a long dress, avoiding any awkward hemline clashes. I also have this dress in a purple colourway and have previously styled them both with a brown cord jacket and trainers. A biker jacket would also work well with this style of dress.
The pink crossbody bag highlights the lighter shades in the dress, but a burgundy bag will look more season-appropriate in a couple of months.
