Welcome to this month’s instalment from The Thrifty Six! We are a group of international women with a passion for preloved fashion who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we all share an outfit based on a theme that features second hand pieces. Shopping preloved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some incredible bargains in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to buy preloved!
Nancy suggested “Traffic-Stopping Graphics” for this month’s theme. Well, I love bold prints and bright colours so I thought it would be a fairly easy task. However, I started to overthink it, and combined with a stinking cold and cough, I couldn’t decide what to wear! As is often the case, inspiration was hanging right in front of me with this crochet print jacket.
When I saw this jacket on Vinted I thought it was actually crocheted, that’s how good the print is. I got chatting with the seller and she told me she’d bought it in Spain. I’ve never seen anything like it before. I wanted it to really stand out so I’ve layered it over a solid red base of River Island top and trousers. With so many colours in the print I have plenty of styling options…pink, purple or blue trousers. That’s the great thing about bright graphic prints! I’m not sure this outfit is “traffic-stopping” but it’s certainly bright…and red is the colour signifying stop after all!

“Could not resist this skirt from Vinted as the print attracted me so much. Graphic prints for me are these kind of psychedelic prints. But I Googled it to be sure and band tees, and all that, are considered graphic too apparently. So you might think totally different of what graphic prints are, that’s okay.
If you know me a bit, you know that I like to wear prints (if I wear them!) with simple black pieces. It is still chilly here so I needed to wear something warm in the form of a cozy cardigan. And my beloved suède ankle boots.”
“I always think graphic tees are so cute, but I don’t own any myself! So I had to get creative with my outfit for this month’s challenge, opting for a ‘graphic print’ instead (if that’s even a thing—when I look up graphic print, it doesn’t look anything like my thrifted dress, but the bold, geometric pattern is certainly reminiscent of block printing). My earrings and purse are also secondhand, and I chose over-the-top striped sunglasses for a little bit of pattern mixing. Since nothing else in my outfit is quite traffic-stopping worthy, I threw on my boldest pink lipstick to complete the look! I can’t wait to wear this out for our next karaoke night.”
“When I think of graphic prints, I focus on graphic t-shirts. Some of the messages and photos just tickle my fancy. Like this cactus. Living in Arizona we are surrounded by cactus, so I had to buy this one at the thrift store. Everything is secondhand, and I call this my Arizona-inspired look with the cactus and cowboy boots together. Heck, even my husband joined in on this prompt.”
“I found this amazing faux leather trench coat for $10 at a thrift shop in North Carolina during my recent road trip and it was perfect for this traffic stopping theme. I combined it with a “No Bad Vibes” graphic tee that belonged to my sister, striped jeans, ankle boots, and a floral print neckerchief that were all thrifted a few years ago, and earrings that I picked up at our local flea market for a mostly thrifted outfit that is fun and colorful. There was no traffic to stop, however, when I took these photos.”
“When I heard the T6 theme for March was ‘Traffic Stopping Graphic’, I immediately thought of this top.
To me it’s the definition of ‘graphic’ – graphic art or Pop Art.
The exaggerated 1950’s comic strip style artwork is so striking and saturated primary colours just smack you in the face!
Stand me in front of traffic and watch me make it stop!”
It’s a very cool blazer. I can imagine that you will wear it a lot in spring with all kinds a colours. I would call your outfit traffic stopping!
Such a fun print!!

Emma, this jacket is simply magnificent! What a fun print and I love the bright colors. It looks fabulous over bright red. And you are right, it will look equally wonderful over any other bold bright color as well. Actually, I bet it would look amazing over all black or all white, too. Well done! I hope you are feeling back to 100%!

Very pretty! YOu do find such great pieces! I love the column of red, that is already “traffic stopping”, so I am sure the look would be as well!

That jacket is absolutely incredible Emma, and I definitely consider it show stopping. I got caught up on graphic meaning a graphic t-shirt and couldn’t think beyond that, LOL
