Welcome to November’s edition of Match Made in Seven! We are an international group of fashion bloggers who meet once a month. One of us chooses a theme in turn, and that can be anything: a book, music, a color, a movie, and then we style an outfit based on that theme. This month Anna set the theme of December party outfits.
The party season is almost upon us, so now is the time to plan what we’re going to wear. No need to panic and hit the shops…just delve a little deeper into your wardrobe and be creative! Whether it’s a formal affair or a more casual gathering, I have some December party outfit ideas for you…starting with a classic LBD.
I wore this black dress for an evening out earlier this week, hosted by a local jeweller. I won’t say too much because I’ll be posting about it at the weekend, but I can let you into a secret…the diamond necklace I’m wearing isn’t mine! I wish it was though 😉 Diamonds (or even pretend ones) are the perfect accompaniment for a little black dress.
A very festive alternative to a little black dress is a little red dress. Team it with leopard print accessories as I have, or gold for added shine.
For a less formal and more comfortable option, pair a stretchy dress with tights and boots. I wore the gold lurex dress for a New Year’s Eve party a couple of years ago and it was super comfy. The draping helps to disguise any over indulgence too 🙂
I love slouchy jumper dresses for everyday wear, but this fitted one from Laura Ashley is a bit dressier. Grey and burgundy pairs beautifully together, and the faux fur collar with integral brooches makes it feel festive.
Velvet is one of my favourite fabrics for Winter, so I doubled up with this outfit. The jacket and culottes look like they could be a suit but I bought them separately. (I bought the jacket in a charity shop). Adding a red blouse and accessories lifts the black velvet and prevents it lookng too heavy. This combination could easily take you from office to party.
Whenever I’m looking for December party outfit ideas, sequins immediately spring to mind. Sequins are much more versatile than you might think – it’s all about what you wear them with. For example, a sequin pencil skirt doesn’t look OTT in the office if you pair it with a jumper or a chambray shirt. A word of warning though: knitwear can catch on sequins so opt for a fine knit with a cotton mix (definitely not your finest cashmere!).
A sequin jacket with boyfriend jeans is a great combination for a casual get together. You still feel like you’ve made the effort to be festive without being too over dressed.
