Happy Monday! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. It’s the last Monday of June already…we’re almost halfway through the year! For this month’s Style Not Age post Gail chose the theme of getting dressed for a picnic. I think the last time I had a picnic was in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris a few years ago when I last did the marathon. On that occasion I was in jeans, jacket and trainers as it was a cool April day. However, today’s post calls for something more suitable for a summer’s day picnic. Actually, I think maybe I took the prompt a bit too literally because this matching gingham set looks rather like a picnic blanket or a table cloth! More dressed like a picnic than dressed for a picnic!
I wore this skirt for a previous Style Not Age gingham theme almost three years ago. Although I bought the top and skirt as a set, I thought wearing them together was a bit too much. However, I’ve completely changed my mind now – after all, it’s just like wearing a dress. The top is cropped so it’s good that the skirt is high waisted and elasticated in the back so I can tuck it in.
I really should have got a shot of the back of the top because it has a lovely open section that’s ideal for keeping me cool on hot days. It covers my bra strap perfectly too so I don’t have to wear a strapless one. It’s funny really because I’d always thought this two piece to be a bit impractical, but it’s not at all. The fabric is so soft and light that I kept it on after the photos – I’m definitely taking it on my next holiday. This challenge prompted me to “shop my closet” and in doing so I found an outfit I love!
I chose white accessories to keep the look fresh. My bag is a reversible – if I turn it inside out it’s silver. Reversible clothes and bags are perfect for travelling because they save space as well as money. This bag is from Marks & Spencer but I bought it on eBay, with the intention of taking it on holiday. It’s the ideal size for day trips and sightseeing – it’s even big enough to carry a baguette! I bought the sandals from TKMaxx last year but haven’t worn them until now. They’re super comfortable and only cost £15.

Hilda is picnic-ready in a lovely outfit from F&F. You can see all the details on her blog Over the Hilda.
Anna is bringing the colour with this fabulous orange and pink combination. Head over to Anna’s Island Style to find out more.
Jacqui has chosen a pretty loose-fitting floral print dress with a cute wicker basket bag. Head over to Mummabstylish to see more of this look.
And finally, Gail of Is This Mutton? has opted for something a bit different with striped paperbag trousers and a graphic T-shirt. I don’t know if there’s any food in that picnic basket but she has the most important thing – champagne!

This is a fabulous dress, Emma! I love gingham, particularly red gingham. Which I do not own, but really want some! I love all the fun little details of this dress and your white sandals are really cute, too.

At first I thought it was a dress, so yes, the 2 pieces are perfect together. I LOVE the pink gingham and have love for this print. Perfect for a picnic! The white slides and bag are just needed, not to mention the french loaf .. is there wine in there 😉
The rattan earrings are great for this look as well. I agree about reversable items – just right for travel as I like to pack light.

I’m glad the challenge has brought those co-ords out of hiding so they’ll be going with you on holiday! Love the gingham two piece and how cute are those pink flowers behind you? x
What a super prompt this was Emma, such a shame we couldn’t actually enjoy a summer picnic with this weather. Love your two piece, it looks just right for so many outings and can also be worn separately. Thanks for sharing. Jacqui x
This cute gingham outfit was the perfect answer to our monthly challenge Emma. I do love pink anyway, but pink gingham is divine!
Another great challenge under our belts eh? Well done x
