With the weather turning a little milder it’s time to think about swapping big coats for something more Spring-like. A trench coat is perfect for this time of year when you still want good coverage (I’m thinking specifically bum coverage!) but don’t need a heavy layer. If they happen to be shower-proof, so much the better.
Whether you opt for a classic neutral trench, a bright colour or even a patterned one, it will be an item you can wear for years to come. This is a wardrobe staple that will never date. Although my colour palette is not exactly channelling Spring, the combination of sparkly stripes and bright red trench coat certainly lifts my mood. I see no reason to limit the sparkly stuff to Christmas 😉
The jumper is a new purchase – reduced to just £12 in the sale! I’m loving tops with a high neck and balloon sleeves right now. The jumper pairs so well with my Finery trousers (currently my favourite pair). Last time I wore these trousers on the blog I opted for navy ankle boots to create a leg-lengthening effect. On this occasion I took my cue from the trench coat and dark red stripes in the jumper and chose my red Lotus boots instead. The wide fit means they’re really comfortable, despite the heel. The dark red metallic fabric looks lovely when it catches the sunlight. They are great for dressing up (worn here with a lace skirt) or styled more casually with trousers.
I’ve had this Biba red trench coat for years. The shiny fabric makes it really vibrant and look that little bit “extra”. I’ve worn it to a wedding over a red dress, but it looks equally good over jeans.

Beautiful outfit Emma, I love the stripes and the trousers fit and look like a dream on you1 I used to own a trench many years ago. I love your red one, what a great statement! A very classy look! I need to channel Spring, as it isn’t exactly here yet
Have a great week!

I don’t have a trench that works year round. The temperature differences between summer and winter are just too large here in Alaska. Summer maximum is 37.4C and winter minimum -60C or so. LOL. However, I have a trench that works from May to August.

Emma, you are always such in inspiration. The colors you put together are always spot on and those shoes! As far a trench coats, I have a very bright patterned on that is a couple of years old so I guess that would be my go to. However, I still think everyone needs a traditional Burberry type coat and have spent some time figuring out which one, how much to spend and when to get it. Love what you have done today.

I love your bright red trench and more importantly, those sparkly red boots! I do have a go-to trench that I’ve had for about 10 or 11 years, however it may be time for a replacement very soon!

Two fantastic purchases Emma. The trench from way back and the jumper now. The jumper also comes as a dress I saw on the website. Great value.
Love that red trench. I think red’s a great color for a coat because it’s so bright and cheery and really, it matches most things.
I really love the colours of your sweater!!
