Denim Days – April’s Thrifty Six Challenge

April 15, 2024

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend. The weather has been all over the place these last few days – typical April weather I suppose. We even had thunder and lightning in the early hours of this morning. Fortunately, there was a break in the rain long enough to take these photos over the weekend. Shelbee chose this month’s Thrifty Six theme of Denim Days, which gave me the opportunity of wearing my customised denim jacket.

Patches representing my favourite things

Actually, I don’t have a lot of thrifted denim but this jacket is without doubt my favourite piece. Many years ago, a friend gave me this Gap jacket but I didn’t wear it as I had another one already. Consequently, I almost gave it to the charity shop. But then I saw a trend for patches on denim jackets so I decided to try a little DIY with patches representing my favourite things, such as music and cats. (You can read about how I did it here and here.) When I pulled it out of the wardrobe for these photos, I remembered that I had two more patches that I hadn’t yet put on, so I quickly added those too, plus some brooches. And I’m not done yet…there’s still more space to fill so I’m looking for more patches!

For a colourful look, I teamed the jacket with a red T-shirt and trousers. In keeping with the pink and red of the T-shirt I added a pink beret, a fun strawberry print bag and pink Converse. I’ve previously worn the jacket with faux leather leggings for the Style Not Age Recycled Fashion post almost five years ago. I’m looking forward to embellishing it further and wearing it more this summer!

Let’s see how my blogger friends are styling their Denim Days outfits…

“I couldn’t pass up these jeans while thrifting last year. The two-toned effect was super fun and they fit so well. Everything except the sling bag is preloved and was perfect for our spring weather.”

“When I heard the denim theme, I knew right away I wanted to photograph this fabulous denim dress that I got at my favorite consignment store in Las Vegas, Alt Rebel. It’s from Eva Mendes’ clothing line, which seems obvious because it’s got that signature va-va-voom look of hers! I thought it would be so cute for spring with a bright lip and pops of color in the accessories. The only problem is, I’m not sure where to wear it!”

“This thrifted denim skirt made its first appearance for our first Thrifty 6 post nearly four years ago. But it was white back then. It ended up getting all stained and dirty so I dyed it. I love finding creative ways to give new life to old unwanted clothing. A little dye goes a long way! Because I didn’t originally style this outfit for a thrifty challenge, the only other preloved item is my rainbow snakeskin backpack.”

“April’s T6 theme is ‘Denim Days’…

…when it comes to ‘bang for your buck’, this outfit definitely delivers!

Look at the volume of denim fabric in this oversized shirt…

…and yet more in the capacious cargo jeans – they’re enormous!

It’s all menswear so I’m vamping it up with a cheeky denim bra.

A flash of utilitarian lingerie is just enough sass to make it sexy!”

“I had a few bad buys on Vinted lately, and it really put me off buying something again. But I didn’t have a pre-loved denim item in my closet! What to do? And then I remembered I had once bought a denim blouse on Vinted. I guess I sold it off pretty quickly as I can’t even remember wearing it, but here is the proof! It’s too oversized, don’t like that. Perhaps it’s time to look for a more fitted one as I think denim blouses are super cool! And I actually like double denim a lot. Weird for someone who doesn’t like jeans!”

That’s all for this month – I hope you enjoyed our Denim Days outfits! We’ll be back with another fun and thrifty challenge on the third Monday in May!

I love the idea of adding patches to a denim jacket! I have added pins and brooches but never patches. Love the entire look, especially the strawberries!
